Chair of Governors - Grant Mahoney (Co-Opted Community)

I have a paper recycling Company in Kent that has clearly allowed me to develop my business skills. Foreland Fields School is no different to any other school in that budgets are under pressure with income streams being set at levels that are not necessarily in line with increases that are due on expenditure, for example pension contributions.

I believe my “all round” business experiences are of value to Foreland Fields School. I am a great believer in sound financial controls and monthly accounts to highlight any financial issues before they get out of control. Tight controls on staff absenteeism is one example of where the Governors and the Headteacher strive to achieve positive outcomes.

My experiences of working for a Paper Company in London during the 1980's when Fleet Street was in a period of rapid change was a real baptism of fire in terms of labour relations! I hope my past experiences of working for both a multinational company and myself will bring some positives to the personnel aspects and challenges of running a school.

I read a Degree in Business Studies and specialised in Marketing at Aston University, Birmingham.

My weaknesses lie in the field of education. However I am supported by a wonderful team that more than compensates for my inadequacies!

Vice-Chair of Governors - Maggie Evans (Foundation Governor)

I worked for 38 years as a Teacher and in 2013 retired as Deputy Headteacher of The Garlinge School.

Foreland Fields School and Garlinge have a long history of working together as Foreland Fields School has an inclusion class at Garlinge.

I always look forward to working with Grant and his team of Governors. I have an extensive knowledge of working with Kent County Council and the Education Department and I know that with Grant’s business background and my experience not only as a teacher but as a member of a Senior Leadership Team, we will move Foreland Fields School forward. Foreland Fields School, under the direction of Adrian Mount our Headteacher who started with us in September 2015, will shine light a beacon across all other special schools!

Headteacher Diane Springett of Garlinge said when I retired: "Mrs Evans was a popular teacher with staff, parents and pupils. She always turned negatives into humour and has a kind heart."

Chair of Resources - Tina Fullick (Local Authority Governor)

Prior to moving to the new site and changing name, I could have walked around the old school blind folded – I never did in case the Headteacher saw me!! My daughter attended the school, I used to work as a support staff member and I am always in school attending assemblies, coffee mornings and many other events that are open to parents. It is vital for Governors to have a link with parents or carers for in the final analysis we are here to give our pupils, parents and carers the very best. The school parent liaison officer helps out many parents.

Although as a Governor we do not manage the school on a daily basis, we are the driving force in the way the school moves strategically.

I am Chair of Resources and I work well with Grant, our Chair, in terms of financial monitoring. “Resources” is more than monitoring the finances, we have buildings to maintain and staff to recruit.

One of my recent tasks was to sit on the “Steering Group” to help steer the new school building. Each month we met with the KCC Project Manager, our Area Education Officer, Head of Special Educational Needs (East Kent), the Senior Improvement Advisor and of course our Headteacher! It has been a long and arduous road but I am pleased we stuck to our guns and achieved so much for our school.

Chair of Learning and Development - Allen Keevil (Foundation Governor)

I am a retired teacher who spent many years teaching in the Senior Department at The Foreland School before it moved site and became Foreland Fields School. I believe my experiences as a teacher and my understanding of the education system is a great benefit to the Governing Body.

Co-Opted/Community Governors

Jason Gerlack

I am  took over as  CEO of East Kent Mencap in 1999 and helped to transform the organization and modernise its protocols and policies ready for the 21st Century.  Thanet Mencap Society merged with Canterbury Mencap to form East Kent Mencap on July 26 2007. I am very happy to be a School Governor at this wonderful school. Clearly here are synergies between our two organisations and as a Governor I have a responsibility for the safeguarding aspects of the school.

Nanette Amas

I am a teacher in the Infants Department at Foreland Fields School. I moved from mainstream education to special needs in 2012 and it is the best career move I have ever made! As a teacher involved in the school I  bring to the Governing Body an educational dimension to the overall decision making processes.

Simon Nobbs

I am employed by East Kent College as Deputy Head of Creative Industries and I read a master’s degree in music. Foreland Fields School already has a special relationship with East Kent College and we are keen to further develop these links.

Steve Pamphilon

I have been working for the NHS and have a Master’s Degree in Organisational Development and Human Resources Management. I believe with my history in the field of human resources I can bring some positive attributes to the Governing Body.

Kerry Smith

I am a dedicated member of the team and a keen member of the Friends of Foreland School, our Parent Teacher Association.

I have no relevant business or pecuniary interest to declare other than my role as a member of Friends of Foreland School (PTA). I am not a governor for any other educational establishment. I have no material interests arising from any relationship between myself and a staff member.

 

Jean Maclachlan

I bring to the Governing Body a new skill set in engineering and sales and marketing. Foreland Fields School has a vision of raising funds from the Community through the resources of a full time Fund Raiser. I believe I can help the school with my analytical skills and experiences in this endeavour. I am very apt with finances and will be an asset to the Resources Team. 

I moved to the UK from the United States so together with finance and marketing, I bring a different cultural dimension to our School.

Adrian Mount - Headteacher

I joined the school in September 2015 and I am pleased to be supported by such a wide spread of talented Governors.

 Gill Greenwood

I have been working as a member of the support staff at the school, and as a school Mini Bus Driver, for many years. I really enjoy working with our pupils and believe I add a real life perspective to the Governing Body.

I am so excited to be the Clerk for the Governing Body of this fantastic school.

I have a vast array of knowledge and experience ranging from Administration, Training (both IT and soft skills), HR Management, Operational Management and Governance roles. I have worked for the NHS for 17 years, with my career predominantly based around operational management and high level administration.  All of which are skills I know that are useful as the Clerk. I appreciate the importance of the Governing Body and the good works that the Governors are doing for the sake of all stakeholders.
