It started just like any other ordinary morning at Foreland Fields school. Buses, cars and taxis arrived and parked up outside …….. then a flurry of fairy tale & other characters appeared through the front doors!
Little Red Riding Hood, Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz, The BFG, Harry Potter, The Gruffalo, several pirates, some Disney princesses, Batman and all of their friends came to school for the day.
Some of the grownups joined in too – there was Mrs Incredible, a whole team of ghost busters, the Mad Hatter and a Big Bad Wolf!
Pupils shared traditional tales in the classes during the morning. Infants shared stories of Mr Wolf’s pancakes and wrote shopping lists. Juniors chased The Gingerbread Man and some of the Seniors explored the more gruesome details of some traditional tales written by the brothers Grimm.
In the afternoon pupils and staff joined together for our first official whole school event in the hall and we tried out some of the impressive stage lighting, sound system and enormous projector.
A group of budding actors, actresses and an energetic dancing cow put together a version of “Jack & the Beanstalk” to entertain the excited crowd. We had a magical growing beanstalk, a booming giant with his own theme tune and a hen that laid golden eggs when we sang to it. Everyone learnt the sign for “Gold” and joined in whenever the popular 80s tune played across the speakers!
Three cheers echoed throughout the building as Jack (aka Beth) chopped down the Beanstalk and the Giant (aka Andy Tuffs) tumbled to the ground.
All pupils went home with a special World Book Day certificate and their £1 voucher to choose their own book.
