On Tuesday 7 November Flavia’s class went to a careers event at the Global Regeneration Centre run by Kent County Council in partnership with Education Business Partnership Kent.
Hundreds of Key Stage 4 and 6th Form students from all over Thanet, Dover and Canterbury districts met with local employers to find out what jobs and opportunities they could offer. Our students and staff met a wide range of companies and post-19 providers and found out about college, supported employment and apprenticeship opportunities as well as other training available once they leave school.
There were career professionals and local training organisations talking about their businesses and offers who made our students feel very welcome. East Kent College catering had a very nice stand giving away profiteroles which was very popular with the students and staff!
Some students tried on a diving belt with heavy oxygen bottles at the Royal Navy stand and when we visited the Sainsbury’s stand the students were able to answer questions about the qualities, values and skills you would need to work in a shop which impressed the Sainsbury’s staff.
We all collected a wide variety of literature about jobs and training opportunities as well as a lot of pens!
